US women’s football team files discrimination complaint

Five top players from the United States Women's Soccer team filed a federal complaint on the grounds of wage discrimination against the US Soccer Federation. The players say they are paid less than half that of their male counterparts and their lawyers say they hope to address this unfair treatment. The US women’s team made AED 73 million more in revenue, than the men’s team in the past year, but say they have not been compensated fairly. Carli Lloyd, Megan Rapinoe, Rebecca Sauerbrunn, Hope Solo and Alex Morgan filed the complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, after the women’s team earned AED 7.34 million (USD2 million) in prize money, compared to AED 33 million (USD9 million) for the less successful men’s team.
