The Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome will host the Ryder Cup in 2022, the European Tour announced on Monday. It will be the first time Italy has staged the biennial team event after they beat Austria, Germany and Spain in the bidding process. The next edition will be held at Hazeltine, Minnesota in September 2016 before Le Golf National, on the outskirts of Paris, stages the 2018 match. European Tour chief executive Keith Pelley said: "History has shown time and again that the Ryder Cup is pure theatre with the players the stars. "There is no question that the Eternal City of Rome will provide a wonderful backdrop for one of the great occasions in world golf."
