Real Sociedad of Spain drew with Manchester United 1-1 on Thursday at Anoeta Stadium in the first leg of the round of 16 of the European Football League.

Joshua Zirkzee opened the scoring for United just before the hour-mark in the round of 16 tie before hosts Sociedad were awarded a penalty following a handball by Bruno Fernandes 10 minutes later, Mikel Oyarzabal making no mistake from the spot.

“I think we played well until the penalty. But then the penalty, I think, changed a little bit the momentum of the game," Amorim told reporters.

Elsewhere Lyon defeated Steaua Bucharest 3-1 at Arena Nacional in the same round. AZ Alkmaar beat Tottenham 1-0 at the Avas Stadium and Rangers beat Fenerbahce 3-1 at the Fenerbahce Stadium.

The second leg matches of the round of 16 will be held next week.
