Two-time major champion Martin Kaymer said it is "highly unlikely" next month's team championship will take place amid LIV Golf's pursuit of investors to keep the league going in 2027.
The league returned Thursday for the opening round of LIV Golf United Kingdom following a hiatus since early June due to the indefinite postponement of its inaugural New Orleans event.
Kaymer said he believes the final two individual events of 2026 will take place, but he put a 5 per cent chance on the season-ending team championship going forward in Plymouth, Michigan.
Speaking after LIV Golf returned to action in the UK, the Cleeks GC captain said players had hoped for greater clarity during a meeting with league officials but were instead told that decisions depend on securing new investment.
Kaymer said he still expects the remaining individual tournaments to take place, but suggested there was only a slim chance of the Team Championship in Michigan going ahead as scheduled.
LIV Golf has been seeking fresh funding after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund announced it would end its financial backing of the league. Reports suggest organisers are looking to secure around $350 million from new investors.
The uncertainty has deepened following this week's announcement that the Asian Tour will align with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, while reports have also linked several LIV players with moves elsewhere ahead of the 2027 season.
LIV Golf is due to stage events in New Jersey and Indianapolis before the planned Team Championship at the end of August.
