Manchester City have won the League Cup after being Liverpool on penalties at Wembley. Goalkeeper, Willy Caballero, was the hero, saving three of the Reds spot-kicks, to help secure a 3-1 shootout win. That was after the game finished 1-1 after 120 minutes of action. Fernandinho opened the scoring for City, hitting a low shot from an angle that Simon Mignolet will be disappointed to have seen hit the back of the net. The Reds ‘keeper made some amends to that mistake with impressive saves from Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure that stopped City extending their lead, and after Adam Lallana’s late shot cannoned back off the post, Philippe Coutinho pounced to take the game to extra-time. But despite five successes in five cup-final penalty shootouts previously, Liverpool couldn’t complete the turnaround and Yaya Toure hit the winning kick.
