Syria to resume international flights on January 7

Syria's Damascus airport will start operating international flights from January 7, Syrian Civil Aviation Authority chief Ashad Al Saliby told Syrian state news agency Sana on Saturday.

“We announce we will start receiving international flights to and from Damascus International Airport from” Tuesday, state news agency SANA said, quoting Ashhad al-Salibi, who heads the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport.

Qatar on Thursday announced it would resume flights to Syria after a 13-year hiatus, beginning with three weekly flights.

Foreign diplomats and international aid planes have been flying into Syria. 

The first flight after President Bashar Al-Assad was ousted took off from Damascus to Aleppo on December 18.
