Syria will restore normal passenger and commercial traffic through the Nassib border crossing with Jordan from Wednesday morning, the state news agency SANA reported, after the crossing was briefly closed following Jordanian airstrikes in southern Syria.

The Nassib crossing is Jordan's only border crossing with Syria open to passenger and commercial traffic.

Meanwhile, Jordan and Syria have agreed to form a joint security committee to examine the details and repercussions of the recent airstrikes against IS sites in Syria, the two countries' foreign ministries said in a joint statement early on Wednesday.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi told his Syrian counterpart Asaad al-Shaibani that Tuesday's strikes were based on field intelligence and aimed at "neutralising" confirmed threats and imminent attacks targeting Jordan's security, while expressing "deep regret" over civilian deaths during the operations.

Jordan said it killed more than 20 IS militants in airstrikes on southern Syria, while Syria said the Jordanian strikes had killed seven people, including three children and a woman.
