Indigenous leaders who've been at the forefront of fuel-price protests in Ecuador said they are willing to negotiate with President Lenin Moreno.

The Conaie, which represents various indigenous communities in this Andean country, was responding to Moreno’s televised plea urging "leaders to talk directly with me".

The talks are set to begin on Sunday.

According to reports, Moreno has agreed to reassess fuel subsidies but not to repeal it.

Nearly two weeks of unrest have left much of the capital city of Quito in chaos.
