The UN Security Council have called an emergency session at Iran's request after the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, the Russian presidency of the council announced.
A council spokesperson said Iran's request to hold the session had been supported by Russia, Algeria and China.
Hamas announced on Wednesday, the assassination of its political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, following an airstrike on his residence in Tehran, after he participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian.
For its part, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement that it is studying the dimensions of the incident of Haniyeh's killing in Tehran and will announce the results of the investigation later.
