At least six people have been killed and 18 more reported missing after heavy rainfall led to a breach in the Tiware dam in western India late Tuesday.
Several houses in Chiplun taluka of Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra have been flooded and at least 12 houses and 20 vehicles near the dam have been washed away.
Rescue operations are ongoing with state officials asking the National Disaster Response Force for additional resources.
Heavy rains have crippled India's financial centre of Mumbai this week, disrupting rail and air traffic, while wall collapses have left nearly 30 people dead.
