Chile has pulled out of hosting two major international summits, including a UN climate change conference.
President Sebastian Pinera made the announcement as anti-government protests continue in the country.
He said his government needs "to prioritise re-establishing public order".
The UN is looking into alternative venues for the December's COP25 climate summit and next month's Apec trade forum.
