The Arab League has strongly condemned the settlement plan approved by the Israeli government in the area known as E1 east of Jerusalem, stressing that it threatens the territorial continuity of Palestine.

In a statement, Secretary-General of the League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said the settlement project divides the West Bank and undermines any prospects for a two-state solution, describing it as a long-standing goal of Israel aimed at preventing the establishment of a Palestinian state.

He affirmed the necessity for the international community to confront this dangerous settlement project and protect the two-state solution as the alternative would be a continuation of violence and instability.

Aboul Gheit highlighted that Israel’s approval of this plan once again reveals the extremely expansionist nature of the ruling group.

According to Reuters, the widely condemned Israeli settlement plan would bisect the occupied West Bank and cut it off from East Jerusalem, a land that the Palestinians seek for a state within.
