Abu Dhabi aims for 80% local materials in housing projects

WAM

Abu Dhabi plans to increase the use of locally manufactured building materials in housing developments to as much as 80 per cent under a new agreement between two government entities.

The Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC) and Abu Dhabi Housing Authority (ADHA) signed the deal during the “Make it in the Emirates 2026” event, which focuses on expanding the country’s industrial sector.

The move is intended to strengthen local supply chains, support UAE manufacturers and reduce reliance on imported materials.

The agreement also aims to improve the efficiency and sustainability of housing projects while supporting the UAE’s wider economic diversification plans.

Both organisations said they would work together to increase the use of UAE-made products in future residential developments, including new neighbourhoods for Emirati citizens.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to expand the role of local industry in major infrastructure and development projects across Abu Dhabi.
