Zimbabwe to introduce new currency

Zimbabwe is set to introduce a new currency in the next 12 months.

According to the country's finance minister, the move is a direct result of a desperate shortage in US dollars.

In 2009, the African country abandoned its own hyperinflated currency and adopted the US dollar along with sterling and South African rand.

However now there isn't enough hard currency to back up the billions of dollars worth o electronic funds stuck in local bank accounts.
