Andy Murray announces retirement plans

An emotional Andy Murray announced his retirement plans after Wimbledon.

The former world No 1 fought back tears as he revealed his decision to quit the sport because of chronic hip soreness.

Murray also highlighted his fears that next week's Australian Open could be the final tournament of his career.

"I said to my team 'Maybe I can get through this until Wimbledon' – that was where I would like to stop playing. But I am also not certain I am able to do that," he told reporters.

Talking about the need for another surgery, he said, "I've considered having another operation which is a little bit more severe than what I had before...The reason for having an operation like that is not to play professional sport, it’s to have a better quality of life."
