Senior Chinese official warns world leaders about meeting Dalai Lama

Foreign leaders can’t get away with meeting the Dalai Lama because they’re doing it in a personal capacity.

That’s the message from a senior Chinese official, who says politicians still represent their government and the country they are from.

Zhang Yijiong, who leads the Communist Party’s Tibet working group, said there are no excuses to meeting the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader.

Very few national leaders visit the Dalai Lama because they fear it will anger the Chinese.
