Rare Farnese Blue diamond sells for $6.7 million

A 300-year old Farnese Blue diamond has sold for a staggering $6.7 million at an auction in Geneva.

The 6.16-carat pear-shaped gray-blue diamond was first given to Elizabeth Farnese, daughter of the Duke of Parma, in 1715 when she married Philip V of Spain.

It was passed down through more than seven generations and shifted out of Spain into France, Italy and Austria.

It originated from the Golconda diamond mines in India.
