UAE food delivery companies warn of delays due to heavy rains

Food delivery companies in the UAE have warned of delays or suspension of services due to the "adverse weather conditions" affecting the country.

In a statement sent to ARN News, Talabat said "vendors and customers in affected areas of the UAE (will) receive communication to expect delays in delivery or suspension of delivery operations, in case of heavy rains or extreme weather conditions".

The firm's standard safety protocol will be put in place, alerting riders about the weather and road safety tips.

"Our dedicated team is closely monitoring weather conditions across the seven emirates where we operate, to ensure that appropriate measures are immediately taken," talabat added.

Food delivery firm Deliveroo also said processes are in place to ensure the safety of their riders during heavy rain.

In a statement sent to ARN News, Deliveroo said: "riders are encouraged to assess the driving conditions in their area and temporarily log out if they feel unsafe driving."

They will also "pause operations in all affected areas" if "weather conditions worsen and it’s no longer safe for riders" and will "inform customers in-app about delays or closures".

Services will only resume "when the weather improves and it’s safe for riders".

In a social media post, Abu Dhabi's Integrated Transport Center (ITC) urged "delivery bike riders to exercise caution due to the instability".
