EU rejects new Brexit negotiations

The European Union says British Prime Minister Theresa May will not be able to renegotiate the Irish backstop in the Brexit deal agreed with Brussels.

May insists she has a "mandate" to change the backstop deal after parliamentary votes in London on Tuesday.

But at the European Parliament, the EU's chief negotiator Michel Barnier and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker insisted there would be no further negotiations on the Brexit divorce deal.

May's been holding talks with European and fellow British leaders about her plans. Correspondent Olly Barratt says she knows the scale of her task.
