Major earthquake hits south-western Mexico

There have been no serious injuries reported after a major earthquake hit south-western Mexico.

The 7.2 magnitude tremor cased buildings to sway in the capital Mexico City.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicentre of the powerful quake was near Pinotepa de Don Luis in Oaxaca state.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center have confirmed that there is no threat of a tsunami.

In a separate incident, two people were killed when a helicopter carrying Mexico’s interior minister and the governor of the southern state of Oaxaca crashed landed.

The helicopter was giving the officials a tour of damage from the earthquake.
