Kremlin will allow athletes to compete independently in Winter Olympics

Russia will not boycott the Winter Olympics in February.

President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday his government will allow Russians to compete as neutral athletes.

This comes after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) excluded Russia from the upcoming games in South Korea as punishment for doping violations.

"We will not block our Olympians from taking part, if any of them wish to take part as individuals," Putin said, adding that the IOC ruling was "politically motivated".
