Fake goods worth more than AED 1 billion seized in Dubai

AED 1.19 billion worth of fake goods were seized in Dubai last year.

That’s according new figures from the Department of Economic Development (DED), who reported that shoes topped the list of counterfeit items, making up 37% of the total.

Bags and other leather products came next, and they have also seen a big increase in the amount of fake smart phones on the black market.

The value of the goods seized was up by 30 million on the previous year.

This is despite the number of items being significantly lower. Mohammed Lootah, CEO of the Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection at the DED explained why.
