US vows to cut funding for Venezuela's Maduro to aid opposition

The US is seeking to cut Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro's revenue streams, and funnel funds to opposition leader and self-declared interim president Juan Guaido instead.

This comes just days after Maduro cut diplomatic ties with the US and signals Washington's willingness to go beyond traditional diplomatic measures.

"What we're focusing on today is disconnecting the illegitimate Maduro regime from the sources of his revenues," US national security advisor John Bolton told reporters at the White House.

He added that the process is "very complicated" and that officials were still working out the details.
