Tom Cruise jets into Abu Dhabi for 'Mission: Impossible' premiere

Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise has landed in style on the first flight into Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Midfield Terminal, ahead of the Middle East premiere of 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One'.

The Midfield Terminal was decked in Mission: Impossible livery to mark how "one of the film’s most thrilling and technically complex action scenes was shot on the building’s 315 metre roof".

As many as 762 cast, crew and suppliers had to prep for 21 days before filming the action sequence at the Midfield Terminal over seven days.

It will mark the first time that the terminal’s interior will be seen by the public when Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One hits the theatres on July 13.

The film also features purpose-built sets at the airport, including an Etihad First Class Lounge, as well as scenes set in the stunning Liwa Desert.

Tom Cruise also unveiled custom Mission: Impossible livery on an Etihad Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Being the official airline of the movie, Etihad will now carry the movie branding on this aircraft as it flies to destinations worldwide.

"We’re proud of our role in the film and our contribution to Abu Dhabi as a destination that attracts global talent," highlighted Elena Sorlini, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports.

"The scenes showcased in the movie are a testament to the architecture, scale and design of the iconic Midfield Terminal, which is inspired by the cultural elements of Abu Dhabi."

Antonoaldo Neves, Group Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Aviation Group, said: "I couldn’t be prouder of Abu Dhabi and our team in showcasing the unique attractions of the emirate, our new airport and Etihad in the movie."

This is the second Mission: Impossible movie to be filmed in Abu Dhabi. In 2018, a HALO sky-diving scene was shot in the emirate with help from the UAE military, Abu Dhabi Film Commission and twofour54.

The film’s premiere will be held at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental on Monday night.
