China slaps $30,000 fine for 'Taiwan' packaging

China has fined Japanese retailer Muji over $30,000 for describing Taiwan as a country on its packaging.

According to reports, Muji imported 119 clothes hangers from Japan last year in packaging that marked Taiwan as the "country of origin".

In a statement, the Shanghai Administration for Industry and Commerce said the Japanese retailer had violated Chinese advertising law and described its actions as "detrimental to the country’s dignity or interests".
