The monstrous cyclonic storm Titli has battered parts of eastern Indian coast, leaving eight people dead.

With gusts of up to 165 kmph, the storm has wreaked havoc in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, severely damaging infrastructure, blocking roads and hampering emergency work.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the storm is expected to weaken gradually before becoming a depression by October 12.

Nearly 300,000 people have been moved to higher ground, with port, airport and train services disrupted.
